Turn off Data Execution Protection
Data Execution Protection (DEP) is a windows feature that can prevent Essential FTIR from running.
Here is a link to a Microsoft site that explains how to turn it off (for Windows Vista, but other Windows operating systems are similar).

For Windows XP, follow these instructions:

Click Start

Select Control Panel

Select System
-
Click the Advanced tab

In the Performance region select Settings

Click the Data Execute tab in the dialog box that opens

Select Turn on DEP for all programs and services except for those I select

Click Add.

The open dialog box will open. Browse and select Essential FTIR, which is usually installed at "C:\Program Files\EssentialFTIR\eftir.exe".

Click Open

Click Apply

Click Ok

Reboot
